Two students from government schools in Nagaland have been selected to participate in the prestigious Sakura Science High School Program (SSHP) 2025 in Japan, under the aegis of Samagra Shiksha Nagaland. The youth exchange program, an initiative of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), is supported in India by the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India.
The program, which will run from June 13 to June 21, aims to promote scientific curiosity, cultural exchange, and international collaboration among outstanding high school students.
As per the selection guidelines issued by the Ministry of Education, Samagra Shiksha Nagaland shortlisted meritorious students who had completed their HSLC from government schools and are currently pursuing the science stream in government institutions.
Following the national-level selection process, the MoE, GoI chose Shethilu Medeo of Ruzhukhrie Government Higher Secondary School, Kohima, and Iris Zomawii Lushai of Chumoukedima Government Higher Secondary School, Chümoukedima, to represent India at SSHP 2025.
Additionally, Gihukali Sema, PGT of Chumoukedima Government Higher Secondary School, has been selected to accompany the students as their supervisor.
The seven-day program in Japan will be fully sponsored by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. It includes visits to schools, universities, and various technological and cultural landmarks. Participating students will also engage in interactive activities and deliver brief presentations during the exchange.
