Two teenagers were killed after a Maruti Gypsy allegedly hit three vehicles and ran over two pedestrians at Veterinary Colony near Burma Camp, Dimapur, on Saturday evening.
According to Dimapur Police, the accident occurred at around 7:45 pm on August 29. The Gypsy, bearing registration number NL07CA/5405, first hit a Royal Enfield motorcycle, a Maruti car and a pickup auto-rickshaw before running over the two pedestrians, leaving them seriously injured.
The injured were immediately shifted to hospital, but both succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment. The victims were identified as 15-year-old Macagbou Charenamai and 17-year-old Gaisinlung Thangmei.
The driver, identified as 25-year-old Bumei Phom, was arrested. Police registered a case at East Police Station, Dimapur, under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act. Further investigation is underway.
