With the deadline for withdrawal of candidature in the upcoming Urban Local Bodies (ULB) election set for June 18, the NDPP’s uncontested victories are on the rise. Today, Seyievino Vitsu was elected unopposed from the NDPP ticket to represent Ward-7 under the Medziphema Town Council. The Medziphema Town Council (MTC), consisting of nine seats, saw 21 candidates from various political parties validated after today’s scrutiny.

Winning certificates will be issued on June 18.

In another development, NDPP candidate Walunila has been declared uncontested in Penli Ward of the Mokokchung Municipal Council. Initially contested by three female candidates – Walunila, Moasangla, and Lichemla Quinker – the situation shifted when Lichemla Quinker withdrew her candidacy, endorsing Moasangla Pongen. However, today, Moasangla Pongen withdrew from the race, supporting Walunila instead.

Moasangla Pongen withdrew from the ULB race in Mokokchung and endorsed Walunila of the NDPP who is now the presumptive elected unopposed candidate from Penli Ward under Mokokchung Municipal Council.

“I had intended to contest strongly, but I decided to step aside and give Walunila the opportunity,” said Pongen during an announcement.
