Young and passionate, Meyi Longkumer of Longsa Village reached Mumbai to follow his dreams and today, after many trials and tribulations, from acting in web series to walking a ramp for well known designer, Romi Ahuja, Meyi has ended up as a ‘Senior Account Management’ at Netflix Mumbai.
Growing up in Mokokchung, Meyi received his college education from Fazl Ali College and pursued hotel management. And later in 2017, with no mentor and support, Meyi went on to participate for Mr. India Origin 2017 in Indore where he was selected among the top 5 finalists and won Mr. Talented in the contest.
The same year, Meyi had the opportunity to walk a ramp for well known designer Romi Ahuja.
However, his achievements did not come easy as he faced discriminations in various forms in every audition he went to in Mumbai and also while participating in Mr. India.
“I felt isolated and inferior regarding my heights and looks yet I said to myself, you are also an Indian like any of them, you got what they don’t have. I also believed in our humble and beautiful Naga culture and stood strong,” he said reflecting on his experience with Mr India Origin.
“As a fresher, knocking at the door of every possible opportunity, I was fooled and cheated by many fraud modeling and casting agencies. There were times I had to go through situations where I was never considered an Indian,” he shared while speaking about the difficulties he faced while struggling to find himself a place in the mainstream entertainment industry.
Much to his luck, a friend whom he met in audition referred him to a web series which earned him a role in Flib Web series season 1, episode 3, in the year 2019. The series is currently streaming on ‘Eros Now’, with main lead actors Jim Sarbh and Viraj Patel.
Again in 2019, he participated in ‘Survival’ web series produced by Mars studio and ‘Archangel’ hosted by Hiten Tejwani.
Later, after getting a call from a job consultancy, Meyi finally managed to earn a position as the ‘Senior Account Management’ at Netflix. However, he plans to apply for the theatre artist to mold himself and fulfill his desire of becoming an actor.
Speaking about his future plans, he said the future is unpredictable but hopes to “land in the homeland soon.”
