Mejongkaba’s farm in Yimchalu village is worth making a ‘go to’ destination to feel inspired and motivated and get concord with the saying that, “an ecosystem with the maximum amount of diversity is the richest.”
About 14 km away from the heart of Mokokchung Town lies Yimchalu village, where a contended Mejongkaba has been rearing ducks, pigs, cows and horses while managing his four fishery ponds all by himself.
His farm is not only rich in biodiversity but is pleasing to the eyes, especially in the early spring as peach blossoms on all corners and mustards bloom in yellows. Moreover, the grazing horses in the meadow and the paddling ducks in hundreds is a sight to behold for the onlookers.
Speaking about his ambitious project, he expressed his interest in starting ‘Horse cart public transportation’ around the Yimchalu area by bringing in ponies from Manipur and adding them to the ones he has now. Currently, he has a Marwari horse from Punjab and a pony from Assam.
When asked about his interest in starting a business with horses, he explained how it all generated out of self-interest while at the same time, he believes that it will be a profitable business and a new experience.
“I think it will be interesting to provide an opportunity for people who wish to simply experience a horse ride or capture themselves in a photo shoot along with the horse in their wedding,” he laughed.
Apart from the horses and ponies, Mejong also provides angling opportunities in two of his fisheries at various costs depending upon certain factors.
Regarding his further goals, he expressed his desire to soon turn his farm into a resort and re-establish his business there once he completes the construction of the swimming pool; probably this year. He insists that he still wishes to achieve all this through his hard work alone.
“I find satisfaction when I work alone; hence, I don’t really like the idea of keeping helpers,” he said.
Mejong has also been awarded numerous awards such as Block Level Best Farmer (ATMA) under Kubolong block (2011-12), Outstanding Performer in rearing cows and chickens in 2017-2019. The Anglers Association has also awarded him a certificate of appreciation for hosting an angling competition successfully back in 2017.
