In a celebration of musical talent and community spirit, Unger village hosted its first open solo singing competition on 5 December organized by the Lipoklong Zünga, a peer group comprising individuals born between 1985 and 1989. The event aimed to promote the talents of young people and raise funds for the Zünga’s upcoming Silver Jubilee celebration in 2030.

Mar, the president of Zünga, expressed their hope that the competition would serve as a platform for young talents and ignite their passion for music.

Special Guest Er A Atu Imsong added a historical touch to the event by narrating an old folksong of the forefathers, emphasizing the rich communication and singing skills of the Unger people. The presence of SDO Civil Tuli, leaders from neighboring villages, and various dignitaries added to the grandeur of the competition.

The competition attracted 11 enthusiastic participants who battled it out in two rounds. In the first elimination round, five finalists were chosen to compete in the final round.

The champion, Impang Jamir, received a cash prize of Rs. 20,000 and a certificate, while the runner-up, Aotangit, was awarded Rs. 10,000 and a certificate. The remaining three finalists received cash prizes of Rs. 1,000 and certificates. All participants received certificates recognizing their contribution.

The panel of judges comprised Mulung Imsong, a singer and composer; Imotemjen, a music director from Mongsenyimti; and Mangli, the youth director at Changtongya Baptist Church. Their expertise ensured a fair and constructive evaluation of the contestants.

The event was further enriched by special appearances from Imsu Imsong, Rentet Imsong (a talented 6-year-old drummer), Marbenba (President Lipoklong Zünga), and Imlisenla (a singer and composer) added an extra layer of excitement to the event.

The competition was made possible by the generous sponsorship of various individuals and entities. The first prize sponsors included Mr & Mrs Takowati Akhoya (St. John School proprietor), Mr & Mrs Nokin Longkumer (DSP), and Mr & Mrs Akum (KKB Rulho). Second prize sponsors were Mr & Mrs Imnaakum Pongener (Mokokchung) and Mr & Mrs Lanuyanger (Chuchuyimlang).

The successful event not only showcased the musical talents within the community but also exemplified the collaborative spirit of Unger village in supporting and encouraging the aspiring artists.
