Ungma Village hosted the 39th Longtrok Senden, a vibrant display of culture and tradition, in collaboration with the North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), Dimapur, at Yimtsüngta Arok Sapang, Ungma, Wednesday. The event drew attention from various dignitaries, including the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Mokokchung, Thsuvisie Phoji, NCS, who attended the event as the special guest.
DC Mokokchung commended the unity displayed by the sons and daughters of Ungma Village, urging other Naga communities to take inspiration from their example. He praised the preservation of heritage and culture, emphasizing the importance of such unity in fostering community strength. He encouraged the village to promote cultural tourism, highlighting the potential for tourism from neighboring states. “Digitizing cultural heritage and relics will open opportunities not only for the district but also for the village,” he said, expressing hope that the village will continue to showcase its culture to the outside world.
Although Dr Prashanna Gogoi, Director of NEZCC, Dimapur, could not attend the event, he conveyed a message through Oliver Temsu Pongen, who described the event as eye-opening for both the village and the attendees and assured support by promising to send cultural troupes from the village to Delhi. He also encouraged villagers to develop skills in handicrafts, handlooms, folk songs, dance, and drama.
The cultural event featured ten different clubs competing in the display of folk dance. United Soyim Club emerged as the winner, securing the first prize, while Salukum Rogo Club claimed the second prize.
