Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs, Durgadas Uikey, met with local leaders, administrative officials, and other stakeholders at the Deputy Commissioner Hall in Kiphire on January 13, 2025.

During the meeting, DC Kiphire, Temsuwati Longkumer, raised concerns about the lack of fund allocation for Kiphire Aspirational District in the financial years 2023-2024 and 2024-2025, despite its status as an ‘Aspirational District’. Longkumer urged the Union Minister to give special attention to the proposals submitted by the district. SP Kiphire, Chinese Chakhesang, highlighted the need for a model women’s police station equipped with modern facilities at Kiphire HQ.
The Union Minister engaged with local leaders, departmental officials, and stakeholders to review the progress of key developmental initiatives in the district, emphasizing the government’s commitment to addressing the needs of tribal communities. The discussions focused on ongoing projects, challenges in tribal development, and potential areas for further collaboration. The United Sangtam Student’s Conference (USSC) and United Sangtam Student’s Likhum Pumchi (USLP) submitted a memorandum on behalf of the four tribes in Kiphire—Sangtam, Yimkhiung, Tikhir, and Eastern Sumi. ABF NITI Aayog Kiphire, Sukanya, also presented successful developmental works undertaken in the district. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by DC Kiphire, while EAC Kiphire HQ, Takatemjen Pongen NCS, moderated the program.
Union Minister Visits GHS Yangphi Kiphire Town
On January 14, Durgadas Uikey visited the PM SHRI Government High School Yangphi in Kiphire Town. The visit included an inspection of the school’s library project and smart classrooms, which are part of the NagaED & KeyED initiatives. Uikey had a brief interaction with the teachers, acknowledging their dedication and emphasizing the importance of their role. He said, “A teacher is like a candle which burns itself and gives light to others,” expressing his gratitude for the teachers’ contribution. The school also submitted a proposal to improve the approach road to the Union Minister.
Union Minister Visits Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) in Kiphire
The same day, Uikey visited the Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) in Kiphire. During the visit, he instructed the concerned department to set up a construction committee to oversee the quality and timely completion of the ongoing projects at the school. He directed the Planning Department to provide regular updates on the construction progress to the District Administration.
Union Minister Visits Food Processing Unit (FPU) at Amahator
Uikey also visited the Food Processing Unit (FPU) at Khingkular Azakeh VLO, Amahator Town, Kiphire. He expressed gratitude to the people of Amahator for their warm hospitality and emphasized the importance of food processing units in promoting both agricultural and non-agricultural products. He highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting Self-Help Groups (SHGs) for a sustainable economy. Uikey also stressed the fortune of tribal communities living in mountainous areas and reassured them of his personal support for any grievances or development activities. The Minister shared his contact details for better communication and encouraged people to reach out to him directly for assistance.
After visiting the FPU, Uikey and his entourage visited the District Hospital Kiphire (DHK) and interacted with the doctors and medical staff to further understand the healthcare needs in the district.
