The Union Minister of State for Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Government of India, Shantanu Thakur, visited Peren District and convened a meeting with the District Officials at the DC’s Conference Hall, Peren, on 12th January 2025. The meeting was also attended by Tribal Hohos, Town Councils, and Village Councils.
The meeting began with a PowerPoint presentation on the profile of Peren District by DC Peren, Hiazu Meru, who highlighted the progress of various ongoing projects and development works undertaken in the district under Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSSs) to date. The DC further apprised the Union Minister about the challenges and issues faced in various sectors and sought his intervention.
Union Minister Shantanu Thakur, while interacting with the District Officials, took detailed notes on the activities and programs implemented in the district under CSSs. He said that all the challenges and issues highlighted had been duly noted and assured that he would intervene as requested to ensure the issues are resolved.
In the meeting, the NZPO President submitted a representation on the proposal for the construction of a waterways shipping route in Barak River, as well as the construction of an AIIMS hospital in Peren District. The Kuki Inpi Nagaland President submitted a representation for the construction of a road from Mongleu to Khelma. The Peren Town Council Chairman submitted a representation on the proposal for proper water supply in Peren Town. The New Peren Village Council submitted a representation for the construction of a museum at New Peren Village, while the
Kejanglwa Village Council submitted a representation to request financial assistance for the construction of a community recreational park and viewpoint at Kejanglwa Village. The meeting was chaired by DC Peren, Hiazu Meru, and concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by ADC Peren, Keyirangding Hegui.
After the meeting, the Union Minister paid a visit to New Peren Village and Jalukie Town, where he interacted with the beneficiaries of PMAY-G, Jal Jeevan Mission, and PMAY-U.
Later in the evening, a cultural program in honor of the visiting Union Minister of State and his team was organized at Mongleu Resort, Samziuram Village.
