Union Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Tourism, Suresh Gopi, visited Niuland on 9 April 2025. During his visit, the Minister held discussions with various departments and interacted with leaders of civil societies.

He held intense deliberations with department officers regarding the implementation of various centrally sponsored schemes on the ground and advised them to speed up the completion of pending schemes.
Acknowledging that Nagaland should have been positioned better than it is today, the Minister asserted that Nagaland has a huge and wide scope for tourism and natural resources. However, he noted that certain constitutional and revenue issues need to be addressed. He also appealed for collective efforts, deliberation, and assessment of the departments’ and officials’ capacities to implement rapid action schemes in the coming days.
Deputy Commissioner of Niuland, Sara S. Jamir, in her welcome address, said that Niuland, being a new and underdeveloped district, greatly values the presence of the Minister. She said it is a manifestation of his true commitment to reaching the unreached and bringing development to the doorstep of the Aam Aadmi at the grassroots level.
A PowerPoint presentation on various centrally sponsored schemes was made by the departments of PHED, DRDA, Agriculture, Mission Vatsalya, Industries & Commerce, and School Education.
The Presidents of the Niuland District Gaonburas Association and the Niuland Area Citizens Forum also spoke at the program and handed over their respective representations to the Minister.
Later, the Minister visited Government High School Nito at Nikhekhu village, where he interacted with the school authorities and students. The program was chaired by the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Niuland, S. Athsangla.
