Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai on Sunday reviewed ongoing development initiatives in Mokokchung district and also assessed the security situation along the Indo-Myanmar border during his visit to Mon and Longwa as part of his official tour of Nagaland.
In Mokokchung, Rai held a review meeting with Deputy Commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma and heads of departments to assess the progress of various development schemes and discuss future plans for the district. He also met members of the Ungma Council and paid a courtesy visit to Padma Shri awardee Guru Sangyosang S. Pongener.
The Minister visited several key institutions, including the DoNER Ministry-supported library-cum-museum, the District Culture Office, the newly constructed Eklavya Model Residential School and the district hospital, to review ongoing infrastructure and development initiatives.
Speaking during an interaction, Rai said, “Nagaland’s rich and diverse cultural heritage, reflected in its art, music and folk traditions, is one of the state’s greatest strengths.”
In Mon and Longwa, the Minister was accompanied by Rajya Sabha MP S Phangnon Konyak and senior Assam Rifles officers. He reviewed the prevailing security situation along the Indo-Myanmar border and interacted with troops deployed in the region.
Rai commended the professionalism, dedication and commitment of the Assam Rifles personnel operating under challenging border conditions, and appreciated their role in safeguarding the nation’s borders and preventing cross-border crimes, including narcotics trafficking, illegal movement and infiltration.
He also interacted with the district administration, MLAs, civil society organisations, village authorities and community leaders to discuss local issues relating to security, governance and development in the border areas.
