Representation for Immediate Disaster Relief, Restoration of Connectivity, and Long-Term Flood & Landslide Mitigation in Mokokchung District
Addressed to the Hon’ble Elected Members of the Legislative Assembly Representing the Ten (10) Assembly Constituencies of Mokokchung District, Nagaland
To: The Hon’ble MLAs,
Subject: Urgent appeal for immediate relief, restoration of connectivity, and permanent flood/landslide control measures in flood- and landslide-affected areas of Mokokchung District.
Respected Sirs, Continuous and incessant heavy rainfall since 19 July 2026 has triggered widespread flooding and multiple landslides across Mokokchung district, severely disrupting road connectivity, communication networks, public institutions and the lives and livelihoods of our people. On behalf of the affected citizens, we submit this urgent representation and call upon our ten elected representatives to act without delay.
We request each Hon’ble MLA to personally visit the affected wards and villages within their respective constituency at the earliest, to take stock of damages, meet affected families, and ensure ground-level coordination with the District Administration.
We request our representatives to jointly take up this matter with the State Government and, where required, the Government of India, to expedite release of relief funds under SDRF/NDRF, ex-gratia assistance to affected families, and emergency infrastructure repair grants.
Having witnessed two major flooding events in the district within the past twenty years, we urge the initiation of permanent flood control embankments along vulnerable Milak river stretches between Tuli and Tzudikong and scientific landslide-control/slope stabilisation works along NH-2 and other vulnerable roads, so that Mokokchung district is future-ready against recurring disasters.
We look forward to your urgent personal attention and timely action on the above. The people of Mokokchung district count on their elected representatives in this hour of need.
