The United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC) has directed all educational institutions under Sangtam jurisdiction, both government and private, to introduce the Nagaland Heritage Studies Textbook (Sangtam) as part of the school curriculum starting from the academic years 2025 and 2026.
The directive follows a joint meeting held on April 8, 2025, convened by the Sangtam Literature Board (SLB) along with Head GBs, Village Council Chairmen (VCCs), School Management and Development Committees (SMDC/SMC), Heads of Institutions (HoIs), USSC, and its federating units at Hopongkyu Memorial Hall, Kiphire, and USBLA Mission Centre, Yangli.
According to the resolution (SLB/GEN/2025/6), the meeting unanimously agreed on the importance of preserving and promoting the Sangtam language.
“After thorough deliberation, the house unanimously decided to introduce the Nagaland Heritage Studies Textbook (Sangtam) in all the schools under Sangtam jurisdiction,” the USSC stated in its directive.
“This decision is made with the belief that learning one’s own native language will help the students to connect themselves with their cultural roots and strengthen their identity and sense of belonging,” it added.
“The USSC, in collaboration with the Sangtam Literature Board, will provide necessary support and guidance to help schools implement this subject smoothly,” it further said.
While urging all educational institutions to strictly follow this directive, the USSC cautioned that “non-compliance will be taken seriously and may lead to further action by the USSC.”
