The United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC) has called for establishing a District Transport Office (DTO) in Kiphire.
In a letter addressed to the Secretary of the Department of Transport, Government of Nagaland, the USSC stated that the lack of a DTO in Kiphire for over two decades since the district’s establishment has caused significant inconvenience to the general public.
The USSC pointed out that, in the absence of a DTO, citizens are currently forced to travel to neighboring districts for basic services such as the renewal and issuance of driving licenses. This situation imposes financial and time burdens and creates undue hardships, particularly for those with limited means and mobility.
The USSC further noted that despite Kiphire district’s geographical isolation, it has witnessed considerable growth and development over the years. Establishing a DTO would not only address these immediate issues but also enhance administrative efficiency and contribute to the region’s overall socio-economic development.
Given the strategic importance of resolving this long-standing issue, the USSC urged the department to prioritize the establishment of a DTO in Kiphire.
Expressing confidence that the department would take swift action, the USSC also offered its assistance to expedite the process if needed.
