Phek, 18 January (MTNews): Reigning Nagaland Wrestling Association champion Venuzo Dawhuo secured a historic fifth consecutive title at the 30th biennial Chokri Area Wrestling Association (CAWA) meet in Chetheba Town, Phek district. Weighing 105 KG and standing 5.10 feet tall, Dawhuo, son of Nezohu Dawhuo from Thenyizu village, walked away with a cash prize of INR 1,00,000. The victory marks a record in CAWA history, with Dawhuo winning the title in 2016, 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2024.
The 24-year old Vemele Thingo stood in second position and was awarded Rs 80000 in cash prize. Cusavoyi Chuzho, 22, and Medozho Kapuh, 23, won the third and fourth positions, winning Rs 70000 and Rs 60000 respectively.
Special guest Kudecho Khamo, Advisor for CAWD and Taxes, emphasized the changing narrative of sports, urging players to maintain honesty, good character, and rigorous training. He highlighted the economic potential of sports and commended the efforts of the Nagaland Olympic Association.
President Vezhoduyi Thisa encouraged wrestlers to focus on belt wrestling and other disciplines, promoting their inclusion in international competitions.
Guest Speaker Kuhupoyo Puro stressed the importance of sports personalities leading associations and focusing on national-style and Greco wrestling.
