Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar has resigned from his post with immediate effect, citing health reasons. The resignation was formally addressed to the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, and invoked Article 67(a) of the Constitution, which allows the Vice President to resign by submitting a written notice to the President.

In his resignation letter, Dhankhar wrote, “To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice President of India, effective immediately, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Constitution.”
Dhankhar, who has held office since August 2022, expressed deep appreciation for the working relationship he shared with the President. “I extend my deepest gratitude to Your Excellency the Hon’ble President of India for her unwavering support and the soothing wonderful working relationship we maintained during my tenure,” he stated.
He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Council of Ministers, calling the Prime Minister’s support “invaluable.” “I express my deep gratitude to the Hon’ble Prime Minister and the esteemed Council of Ministers. Prime Minister’s cooperation and support have been invaluable, and I have learned much during my time in office,” he noted.
In a heartfelt acknowledgment of his interactions with Members of Parliament across party lines, Dhankhar said, “The warmth, trust, and affection I have received from all the Hon’ble Members of Parliament would ever be cherished and embedded in my memory.”
Reflecting on his tenure, Dhankhar wrote, “It has been a privilege and satisfaction to witness and partake in India’s remarkable economic progress and unprecedented exponential development during this significant period.” He further described serving during this transformative phase of India’s history as “a true honor.”
He added, “As I leave this esteemed office, I am filled with pride in Bharat’s global rise and phenomenal achievements and hold unwavering confidence in her brilliant future.”
