Nagaland delivered a dominant all-round performance to register a commanding 177-run win over Mizoram in a Plate Group List A match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy at the JSCA Oval Ground in Ranchi on December 29.
After winning the toss, Nagaland elected to bat and produced one of their finest batting displays of the season, amassing 399 for four in the allotted 50 overs. The total stood as the second-highest score of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025–26 season and placed Mizoram under immediate pressure.
The innings was anchored by an outstanding partnership between Nischal D and Sedezhalie, both of whom scored centuries. Nischal was the standout performer, compiling a commanding 182 off 130 deliveries. He batted with authority and consistency, finding boundaries regularly while rotating the strike effectively. His innings reflected complete control and set the tone for Nagaland’s acceleration in the middle and death overs.
Sedezhalie provided the ideal support with a composed 124 off 118 balls. His knock balanced aggression with stability and ensured that Nagaland maintained momentum throughout the innings. The pair laid a strong foundation that Mizoram’s bowlers struggled to contain. Karthik C A was the most successful bowler for Mizoram, finishing with figures of two for 82 from his ten overs, but the attack largely found it difficult to stem the flow of runs.
Chasing a daunting target of 400, Mizoram faced early pressure and were unable to build sustained partnerships. Sahil Reza stood out with a fighting century, scoring 104 off 105 balls. He showed resilience and determination, holding the innings together as wickets fell at regular intervals around him. However, the lack of support from the rest of the batting lineup meant that Mizoram never gained real momentum in the chase.
Nagaland’s bowlers maintained discipline and control, consistently applying pressure through accurate line and length. Imliwati led the attack with figures of three for 35 from his ten overs, while Akavi claimed three for 36 in nine overs. Their efforts ensured that Mizoram were bowled out for 222 in 42 overs.
