The Kiziri Village Council and the Phek Area Mothers’ Association (PAMA) have strongly condemned the recent incident of molestation, attempted rape, and criminal intimidation involving a woman from Kiziri village, allegedly perpetrated by Hekugha Chophi, son of Shivi Chophi of Tsûtoho Village, who is reportedly a member of the NSCN (IM) faction.
According to the statements, the incident occurred on September 29, 2025, when the accused allegedly attempted to rape Miss Vedukholu and issued threats to kill her.
In a statement, the Kiziri Village Council described the act as “reprehensible and unlawful,” stating that it represents a grave violation of human dignity and is “a direct affront to the fundamental values of respect, equality and justice that our society upholds.”
Reaffirming its firm stance, the council said that any form of sexual harassment, molestation, or violence against women and girls is intolerable and must be met with the strictest legal action. “The individual responsible for such despicable behavior must be held fully accountable under the law, and justice must be ensured without delay,” it said.
The council also extended its deepest sympathy and support to the victim and her family, and pledged full cooperation with law enforcement to ensure justice is delivered. “It is our collective responsibility to create a safe, respectful, and dignified environment for all, free from fear, exploitation, and abuse,” the statement read.
Similarly, the Phek Area Mothers’ Association (PAMA) expressed its deep outrage and condemnation, terming the act “a heinous crime, a gross violation of human rights and dignity, and an alarming threat to the safety and security of our community, particularly of women and vulnerable individuals.”
“Acts of violence and intimidation have no place in a civilized society, and we stand firmly united in demanding that justice be delivered swiftly and impartially,” PAMA stated.
PAMA also called on law enforcement authorities to take immediate and decisive action against the accused and ensure he is held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. The association further urged authorities to provide protection, legal support, and counseling to the victim to ensure her safety and well-being.
Both the Kiziri Village Council and PAMA appealed to the public to stand in solidarity against gender-based violence, support initiatives that promote respect, equality, and justice, and send a strong message that any form of sexual violence, threat, or coercion will not be tolerated.
“Our collective voice must continue to uphold the rights and dignity of every human being,” PAMA stated.
