A new Forum of Village Council Chairmen under RD Chümoukedima Block has been formed following an emergency meeting held at the DC’s Conference Hall on Tuesday afternoon. The meeting was chaired by Mrs. Sashirenla Imchen, BDO of RD Chümoukedima Block.

According to a press release issued by Sessional Convenor Sebastian Zumvu, seventeen out of the 23 Village Council Chairmen under the Block attended the meeting, which discussed “various issues pertaining to development of the villages and the schemes introduced by the Ministry of RD, Government of India.”

The house resolved to create the Forum of the Village Councils Chairmen, RD Chümoukedima Block, with the objective to “take up issues pertaining to the interests of the villages under the RD Block.”

It was also “unanimously decided to dissolve henceforth any existing VDB Secretary Association under the said Block” and to direct “all the VDBs Secretaries under its jurisdiction to disassociate/withdraw from any existing Association of the VDB Secretaries in the District or State.”

Addressing recent tensions involving the Kacharigaon/Phevima Village Council, the house further resolved that the RD Department be urged “not to take any punitive action against the Kacharigaon/Phevima Village Council for taking up the pull-back issue to the media.” The Chairmen warned that “it shall not be tolerated by the Forum if the said Council is discriminated/deprived of any due share of developmental schemes because of their resorting to social media to air their grievances.”
