Mokokchung, September 10 (MTNews): In a visit made to the Nagaland Forest Management Project supported by Japan International Cooperation Agency (NFMP-JICA) project in Mopungchuket and Süngratsü villages by the Senior Officers from Himachal Pradesh Forest Department, the visiting officials commended the works undertaken and called the loaning system under the SHGs through JFMC and the concept of Revolving Fund and the Challenge Fund as “impressive”.

 

 

They also noted that the way the Forest is managed with the concept of Farmers First was a “take away”. The officials also noted that the Plantation raised by the villages under the technical guidance has led to the success of the project and remarked that “this NFMP, JICA project undertaken by the Mokokchung Forest Division could be one of the best project sites in the country, created with joint collaborative effort of Department, Village Community and the NGOs.”

 

The visiting officials were led by the Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & Chief Project Director of Project for improvement of Himachal Pradesh Forest Ecosystems Management & Livelihood (PIHPFEM&L -JICA FUNDED), Nagesh Kumar Guleri, IFS along with Dr Sushil Kumar Kapta, IFS Additional Chief Conservator of Forest and Parveen Taak, Joint Secretary to the Government of Himachal Pradesh, Forest Department.
Rongsenlemla, IFS, Conservator of Forests (NTC), Mokokchung accompanied the officials and visited the project sites and interacted with the Joint Forest Management Committee and Self Help Groups of Mopungchuket and Süngratsü Villages.

 

The first day of their visit was on September 9 where the Senior Officers interacted with the Divisional Management Unit Mokokchung along with the Field Management Unit team and the FNGO team of the Forest Department.

 

Rongsenlemla CF (NTC) briefly highlighted about the activities of the NFMP Project at the Circle level and the initiatives undertaken by the Divisions under the Project.

 

Dr. Sentitula, IFS, Divisional Forest Officer cum Divisional Management Unit team gave a presentation on the achievements made by the Division and the achievement of 100% target set under the project with the active collaboration of the community and the Forest Department. She also highlighted on the initiatives undertaken under various livelihood sectors and case study that were undertaken along with convergence activities.
Tiarenba, Forester-I presented the GIS and MIS documentation of all the project activities.

 

Akumtoshi, the Team Leader of the FNGO presented detailed achievements made by the SHGs and the convergence works undertaken for Conservation of Genetic Germplasm in the Forest Nurseries.

 

On 10th of September, the visiting officials were taken to the Mopungchuket project area and had an interaction with the JFMCs. The visiting officials appreciated the Drinking Water facility innovated by the JFMCs in the village and commended the participation of the community towards conservation efforts. The officials also visited Süngratsü JFMC and witnessed the plantation sites under Jhum Agro Forestry Model.
