Mokokchung, June 14 (MTNews): Along with the rest of the world, Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital observed the World Blood Donor Day at IMDH Conference Hall on 14 June under the WHO’s global theme “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives.”
Bendangtemsu Ozukum and Nukshitula talked on ‘Walk the Talk’ during a brief formal presentation, where they highlighted their experience as blood donors. Bendangtemsu Ozukum encouraged everyone to become blood donation agents by channeling and connecting persons in need of blood with people eager to give.
Nukshitula stated that we should educate and urge individuals to donate blood while also attempting to dispel myths about blood donation. She went on to say that by giving blood, we not only save a person’s life, but we also save a family from going through the bereavement process.
Dr. Limatula, MS, IMDH, explained the significance of the day and why the World Blood Donation Day was honored. She noted that the day was marked to raise awareness of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) need for safe blood and blood products for transfusion, and that it also underscores the essential contribution that volunteer and unpaid blood donors make to health systems in order to save lives.
She thanked the volunteers and asked everyone to educate the public about the noble purpose of blood donation and to dispel any misconceptions about it.
Molu Jamir presided over the program, while Makshi Jamir, DPO. NSACS, offered the vote of thanks. The ceremonial event was followed by a voluntary blood donation drive where 5 volunteers donated blood. The blood donation camp will continue on Wednesday with the Assam Rifles under the initiative of Ao Senden in continuation of the World Blood Donors Day.
