Clean Community, an initiative of Alempang Baptist Church Youth Ministry launched

Mokokchung, March 18 (MTNews): In a novel venture to promote cleanliness and induce behavioral and lifestyle change, the Alempang Baptist Church Youth Ministry has today launched a campaign called ‘Clean Community’. As part of the first phase of the campaign, a cleanliness drive and ‘waste audit’ was conducted today with the participation of 41 volunteers.
‘Clean Community’ as a campaign would work towards creating awareness and sensitization while continuously engaging in works with a common goal to keep the locality clean. This campaign group would consist of responsible individuals coming together to learn, grow and encourage one another to work towards the common goal.
“It was an enriching experience for me and a time of building friendship; and at the same time a gentle reminder of understanding my sense of responsibility towards the environment,” said Alem, a participant who volunteered today. “It has built a conscious culture not only among the youths but the entire community. Conscious enough to not throw that plastic ‘anywhere’ but dispose it at the right place, to promote use of foldable bags for our daily needs, to upgrade the essential uses and to take the small steps for a greener tomorrow,” shared Anenla, another participant.
Aien, another participant, said that such programs empower and encourages all youths to be more sensible and cautious towards cleanliness and hygiene. “I would gladly partake again when such a campaign is organized in the coming days,” she promised.
The campaign began with Amenla, Associate Pastor Women, invoking God’s presence with thanksgiving while Supongsashi, Finance Secretary, instructed the volunteers on how to segregate the wastes for auditing in order to sort out, record and analyze the wastes composition in the area.
The volunteers collected a total of 54.4 kgs of waste from the locality which primarily consisted of PET bottles, cold drinks bottles, liquor bottles and Tetra Pak packaging forming the major chunk of the waste collected.
