Waku Tara clinched the champion title at the 38th Wrestling Meet 2025 of the Losami Wrestling Association, held at the Losami Local Ground on Monday. Competing in the A Category, Tara secured the top position and received a cash prize of Rs 18,000.
In the same category, Chenewe Swuro finished second and was awarded Rs 15,000, while Menuwehi Mekrisuh and Thomewe Khesoh secured the third and fourth positions with prizes of Rs 12,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.
In the B Category, Khomewe Hothe emerged champion and received Rs 7,000. Herhewe Tara, Kewechiizo Akami and Emhechehi Mekrisuh claimed the second, third and fourth positions and were awarded Rs 5,000, Rs 4,000 and Rs 3,000 respectively.
The under 15 category saw Lirhu Wezah winning the champion title with a cash prize of Rs 8,000. Menuhi Mekrisuh secured second place and received Rs 6,000, while Wawute Mekrisuh and Kolo Swuro finished third and fourth with prizes of Rs 5,000 and Rs 4,000 respectively. The prize money for the under 15 category was sponsored by the Losami Uniform Service Union.
The inaugural function was graced by Wepe Mekrisuh, Secretary of the Central Office Board of the Naga People’s Front Nagaland, as the special guest. Addressing the gathering, he said Naga wrestling is gaining popularity and urged young people to take active interest in the indigenous sport. He highlighted its cultural significance and encouraged wrestlers to pursue the sport with dedication and professionalism.
The closing function was attended by Pfiitsiikolo Akami, Secretary of the Village Development Board Losami, who distributed the prizes.
