The Konyak Civil Societies comprising the Konyak Union (KU), Konyak NyupuhSheko Khong (KNSK) and Konyak Students’ Union (KSU), in collaboration with the Mon district administration, organised a felicitation programme at the Council Hall, Mon Town, on August 3 to honour Wangshem Konyak for his achievement in international football.
Born in Tanhai village of Mon district, Wangshem brought pride to the Konyak community, Nagaland and the country by emerging victorious in two prestigious international youth football tournaments, the Helsinki Cup held in Finland and the Gothia Cup, also known as the World Youth Cup, held in Sweden in 2026. He was the only Naga participant in the tournaments.
The programme was attended by Mon Deputy Commissioner Wennyei, NCS, leaders of the Konyak Civil Societies, students and well-wishers who gathered to celebrate the young footballer’s success.
Speakers lauded Wangshem’s hard work and determination, describing his achievement as a milestone that has brought international recognition to the Konyak community and India.
Konyak Students’ Union Press Secretary Pangai Konyak said Wangshem’s success would inspire younger generations to pursue their dreams with commitment, resilience and self-discipline. He encouraged youth to strive for excellence through dedication and perseverance.
