Mokokchung, 6 July (MTNews): In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Mokokchung Police have arrested three persons, including a constable in the District Executive Force (DEF), Mokokchung on charges of drug trafficking.

The arrested persons have been identified as Lanutoshi (33), Moameren Vmai (40) and Buni Throzho (47). Lanutoshi is said to be a constable in DEF Mokokchung, presently residing at Ungma ‘B’ Khel, Mokokchung.

 

 

Lanutoshi was arrested on 1 July while he was receiving a parcel containing suspected brown sugar/heroin at the MMC Complex Sumo Stand in Mokokchung. “During checking, one plastic soap container containing suspected Brown Sugar/Heroin concealed inside the parcel was recovered from his possession,” Mokokchung Police said. The suspected drug weighed around 9.27 grams.

 

 

On further investigation, the police identified the suppliers of the drug and conducted a search in Dimapur on 5 July. Two persons, Moameren and Buni, were arrested from Dimapur. The police also seized a .22 pen pistol with six live rounds of ammunition from their possession. Moameren hails from Tonjoy Poumai village, Senapati, Manipur, presently residing at Naga United Village, Chumukidema while Buni  is a ‘SS’ Kilonser, NSCN-K (Niki), hailing from Chingme Khullem/Raveme, Senapati, Manipur presently residing at Rangailong Colony, Burma Camp, Dimapur.

 

 

A case has been registered at the Mokokchung Police Station (MKG PS-I) and further investigation is ongoing.

 

 

The Mokokchung Police has appealed to the general public for cooperation in combating the drug menace. It has also warned that anyone found involved in drug abuse or drug trafficking will be dealt with sternly as per the provisions of the Narcotic and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
