The Watsü Mungdang and the Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem, on May 5, have condemned the “inhuman treatment of a minor boy” by a lady in Mokokchung town on April 27.

The Watsü Mungdang has in a press release condemned the alleged perpetuator, “a 32-year old Rongpangwatila (W/o Mr. Moamanen Kichu) of Nokpu village residing at Alempang Ward for mercilessly inflicting physical wounds on an 11-year old boy tarnishing the image of all Ao women.” Watsü Mungdang president S. Arenla Longkumer and general secretary Sungtireben expressed anguish over the callous act of the perpetuator and conveyed solicitude to the boy’s parents. Watsü Mungdang also demanded the competent authority that the culprit should be punished in a befitting manner so that such incidents do not happen in the future.

Meanwhile, the Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT) said it was “totally shocked” at the inhuman treatment of a minor nine-year-old boy in Mokokchung town, the case of which came to light on April 27, 2022.

“The minor boy from the Chang community was living with an Ao family under foster care. He was physically tortured and his body bore the marks of the inhuman suffering. Such cruelty cannot be justified in any manner,” MTLT president Imnaonen Pongen and general secretary Imkongchuba Pongen said in a press relase.

While urging the concerned authority to expedite the case and deliver justice to the victim and his family, MTLT has demanded the concerned government agency to immediately rehabilitate the young victim under relevant government program “so that the mental and physical trauma can be alleviated to some extent.”

“The MTLT wishes the young victim a speedy recovery and also express our solidarity with the victim’s family. We hope that the concerned authority will take this condemnation note with utmost seriousness and deliver justice at the earliest so that the pain and trauma of the victim and his family can be assuaged with the deliverance of justice,” MTLT said. MTLT also expressed appreciation to the Childline 1098 for promptly responding to the case and registering an FIR with the police in coordination with the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).
