The Western Sümi Hoho (WSH) and Western Sümi Kukami Hoho (WSKH) have urged the Government of India and the Ang Mai-led NSCN-K faction to initiate a formal ceasefire, citing the need for lasting peace and stability in Naga-inhabited areas.
In a joint statement issued through its media cell, the two organisations welcomed the October 22 peace talks between an NSCN-K delegation led by Ang Mai and Myanmar’s National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) in Nay Pyi Taw.
The organisations said they supported efforts towards dialogue and called for a similar initiative between New Delhi and the NSCN-K (AM) leadership, including a formal cessation of hostilities.
They stated that decades of conflict had placed considerable strain on border communities, affecting infrastructure development, trade and public welfare. A ceasefire, they said, would be an important step towards regional stability and socio-economic progress.
Emphasising the need for inclusive dialogue, the WSH and WSKH said lasting peace could not be achieved in isolation and required all active groups to be brought into constructive discussions.
The organisations appealed to both the Centre and the NSCN-K (AM) leadership to exercise political foresight and work towards a formal truce, stating that an end to armed confrontation would create an environment conducive to political reconciliation.
Reiterating their support for genuine peace initiatives, the two bodies urged both sides to act in the larger interest of the Naga people.
