To impose total bandh in Dimapur if demand not met

The Western Sumi Hoho has rejected the state government’s order on demarcation of the inter-district boundary between Peren and Chumoukedima districts. It has also demanded that all Sumi villages in the Peren-Chumoukedima boundary, of erstwhile Dimapur district, be amalgamated into the newly created Chumoukedima district or be kept under Dimapur district as before, failing which it will impose a total bandh of Dimapur district.

“This is a sinister design to divide our Western Sumi villages that have a boundary problem created by some intruders from Manipur and Assam state who are hell bent to create a new village under the guise of their so-called ancestral land,” WSH said in a letter to the Chief Minister that was made available to this newspaper. WSH also demanded the state government to “flush out all these illegal encroachers” and called upon the indigenous tribes of Nagaland state to be “wise and judge accordingly as our indigenous land is being encroached by illegal encroachers from outside our state.”

Saying that WSH, the apex body of all Sumis inhabiting Dimapur, Niuland and Chumoukedima districts, comprising of more than 170 villages and a total population of around 2 lakhs, is totally dismayed at the Government of Nagaland notification, vide Home Department, GAB-1/INTER-DIST/2021 dated Kohima, the 3rd June 2022, it has demanded that the said order be revoked within 7 days, failing which it said the bandh will be imposed and the state government will be totally responsible for any untoward incidents that may arise.

The memorandum to the chief minister was appended by Shikaho Zhimomi, president, WSH; Phushito Aye, President, WSKH; Mughavi Awomi, president, WSYF; Visheli S Yeptho, president, WSTH; Vikuto Zhimo, WSSA; and Kughato Achumi, president, WSSU.
