Why the name “Sammogooting”?
Chief Minister Rio explained the historical significance behind the name of the stadium, “Sammogooting.” The name was chosen in reference to the British administrative center of the Naga Hills districts under the Assam province in 1866. Rio stated that this British legacy continues to influence the region, as the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation Act (BEFR) has provided special protection to the land and its people.

He therefore said, it is appropriate to name the stadium with the first and the most important historical background which has made Naga Hills into a full-fledged state.

He expressed hope that the residents of Chumoukedima and the surrounding areas would respect and understand the historical significance tied to this name.

Technical details of the stadium
Assistant Chief Engineer, CWD, Er Sungtiba Amer, provided insights into the stadium’s construction, which was conceptualized in 2023-2024 to meet the growing needs of the district. Constructed by the Department of Civil Administration Works Division (CAWD) and executed by M/s J.K.
