MLA Nuklutoshi raised a starred question in the Eighth Session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly on 9th March 2026, asking why firecracker restrictions are often stricter during Diwali, while similar concerns during Christmas and New Year’s celebrations get less attention.

He highlighted the health and environmental impact, pointing out that firecrackers release toxic fumes that affect people’s breathing and disturb both wildlife and domestic animals. Nuklutoshi questioned the logic behind the uneven enforcement of rules across festivals.
Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton responded that the State follows Supreme Court guidelines, which allow the use of certified green crackers under regulated conditions, including time limits and noise standards. He added that the government issues advisories during festive seasons to help people celebrate safely.
Patton also appealed to the public and civil society to cooperate with authorities so festivals can be enjoyed responsibly, without harming health or the environment. (With DIPR inputs)
