Wildlife Week 2024: Nagaland minister urges collective efforts for conservation

As India prepares for Wildlife Week 2024, the Nagaland Minister of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, CL John, has extended his greetings to the people of the state, encouraging collective responsibility in wildlife conservation. The event, running from October 2 to 8, will be celebrated under the theme “Wildlife Conservation Through Coexistence.”

In a message ahead of the celebrations, CL John highlighted the need for a unified approach to protecting the country’s natural heritage. “As we join hands to celebrate Wildlife Week 2024, let us reaffirm our duty to protect and preserve our natural heritage,” he said.The Department of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (DEFCC) has planned a variety of activities, including awareness campaigns, quizzes, painting and debate competitions, talk shows, a “Run for Nature,” and a sports meet. Articles focusing on wildlife conservation will also be published in local newspapers to raise public awareness.

The minister expressed pride in the state’s progress in conservation, particularly the establishment of Community Reserves (CRS) in nearly 200 villages. He also pointed out the international recognition for the conservation of the Amur Falcon, which has become a symbol of the state’s successful efforts.He called on individuals, schools, village institutions, and civil society organizations (CSOs) to actively participate in the programs and thanked schools for their contributions to pre-celebration competitions that have paved the way for national-level entries.

Concluding his message, the minister urged everyone to rededicate themselves to nature and environmental conservation, making Wildlife Week 2024 a significant step in fostering coexistence between humans and wildlife.
