The ‘Winter Carnival’ in Mokokchung kicked off with much fanfare at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex on December 13, 2023. The much-awaited event was inaugurated by Martoshi Jamir, Vice President of the Mokokchung District Sports Council and President of the Mokokchung District Badminton Association.
This year marks the 20th edition of the Winter Carnival, organized by the Longpangshujung Multipurpose Cooperative Society from Ungma village. Martoshi Jamir expressed his pleasure at being a part of the celebration and highlighted the significance of the ‘Winter Mela’ in fostering a peaceful environment and creating a merrier holiday season for the residents of Mokokchung.
Talking to the media, Sütsüng Jamir, one of the organizers, extended a warm invitation to all denizens to join the festivities with friends and family. He emphasized the objective of the Winter Mela, which is to provide a joyous and peaceful atmosphere for the community.
Samsul Hoque, the manager of the Winter Mela, shared his heartfelt experience in organizing the event in Mokokchung. He expressed gratitude for the friendly and welcoming nature of the people. Hoque emphasized that the primary goal of organizing the Winter Mela, in collaboration with the Longpangshujung MPSC, is not solely for profit but to ensure that the town’s residents thoroughly enjoy the holiday season.
Visitors to the Winter Mela can delight in a variety of attractions, including a Ferris wheel, Dora Dora, roller coaster, magic shows, and more than 25 stalls offering sweets, pickles, accessories, garments, electronic appliances, jewelry, and various other items. The Winter Mela promises an extensive range of shopping and entertainment options for attendees.
The Winter Mela will continue to spread festive cheer until January 5, 2024. Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to partake in the joyous celebrations and make the most of the holiday season at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex in Mokokchung.
