WIPRO EARTHIAN REGIONAL AWARDS 2022 Nagaland Chapter held

Dimapur, 11 April (MTNews): The Wipro Earthian Regional Award Ceremony Nagaland Chapter 2022 was held at Hotel Saramati, Dimapur to facilitate the winning schools of Wipro Earthian Sustainability Education Program for Schools. Altogether 5 schools participated with 7-team 35 students.

Rajeshwari Kurana School Tuli Mokokchung, the National winning team was also felicitated along with Regional Award Winners, Christian Higher Secondary School and Vision Higher Secondary School. Altogether 5 schools participated with 7 teams which consisted of 35 students.

The Wipro Earthian, now in its 12th year, has reached over 13000 schools and 4000 colleges since its inception. The core objective of this program is to integrate Sustainability education into the learning process through critical thinking and action, thereby empowering change in their context and situation.

Ms. Arathi Hanumanthappa, Program Manager, Wipro Foundation in her opening remark highlighted the importance and the need for a sustainable and an environmentally friendly land. She challenged the students to understand what the issue is in one area and read as much as one can, going beyond the textbooks. She said she was overwhelmed to see the active participation of the schools and congratulated the winning teams. In addition, she also stated that it is one’s responsibility to preserve and protect the Flora and Fauna of the land. In her concluding remark she expresses her interest to work with the schools in Nagaland.

Subonenba Longkumer, Director, CECS welcomed and congratulated all the winning teams and members present. He also encouraged the students to have the sense of responsibility in preserving, protecting and making Nagaland an environmentally friendly and livable state. In his concluding remark he stated, “it is more fruitful to educate the young than to waste time on adults whose cup is almost full.”

Bano Haralu , veteran journalist was the guest speaker where she expressed her concern and interest for a sustainable and environmentally friendly land. She stated that India alone is a vast country and is one of the hotspots of biodiversity in the world; home to 49,000 plant species and 91,000 different animal species. She also stated “if one does not learn with what we have, how one can know about the diverse environment and its issues.” Further into the discussion she stated that, in Nagaland, there is a huge opportunity in agriculture for the youngster as a researcher and environmentalist.

Kuda waste Management team also shared about their experience in combating waste issue in the district and encourages the gathering to be a responsible citizen in making our land an environmental friendly state. This was followed by an experience sharing from the students and a concluding note from the Program Officer CECS.
