Walkathon held
Wokha, 18 December (MTNews): Celebrating the 50th anniversary of Wokha District, the Wokha District Sports Council (WDSC) in coordination with the Golden Jubilee organizing Committee organized a Half- Marathon open category and Walkathon for Seniors Citizens with the theme “Run for Renewal and Transformation” on 18 December 2023.
The half marathon race was supported by MLA Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe and was sponsored by the Department of Youth Resources and Sports.
Deputy Commissioner & Chairman WDSC, Ajit Kumar Ranjan IAS, flagged off the half marathon race from Wokha Zero-Point to Public Ground for the open category and for the seniors’ citizens the walkathon started from PWD Junction and culminated at public ground. During a short function, Dr Atheo Murry held a pep talk on fitness and health and Khriesinuo Ngacu, fitness trainer, demonstrated some technique on fitness.
Former MLA & Ex-Chairman Lotha Hoho, Mhao Humtsoe graced the occasion and gave away the prizes to the winners of various categories.
DSO & YRSO Wokha, Libemo Jami in his welcome address congratulated all the winners and the participants and thanked the well-wishers for making the event a grand success.
The Half Marathon in the Men’s category was won by Phyobenthung Humtsoe, while Renthungo Tsanglao and Chonben Tungoe won the second and third places respectively. In the women’s category, Nzanti Lotha bagged the first position while Yingabeni Odyuo and Lichumbeni Kikon won the second and third places respectively.
In the senior citizens category, Yanbemo Ngullie won the first position while Khoshako Erie and Yanpothung Jungio bagged the second and third places respectively.
