Wokha district imposes complete ban on Single-Use Plastics

Deputy Commissioner of Wokha, Vineet Kumar (IAS), has informed all concerned parties that, in pursuance of a government notification and in the interest of maintaining environmental sustainability and public health, a complete ban has been imposed on the sale and use of the following single-use plastic items throughout Wokha district.

The banned items include all single-use plastics (SUPs) carry bags, irrespective of microns, and all single-use plastic bottles for water and soft drinks below 1 liter.

Furthermore, it informed that any commercial establishment or entity found violating this order shall be liable to a fine of Rs. 10,000  for the first offense, Rs. 20,000 for the second offense, and permit cancellation for subsequent offenses.

“This notification shall come into effect on the 1st of August 2024 and shall remain in force until further notice. All relevant authorities are directed to ensure strict compliance with the said notification,” it added.
