The District Planning and Development Board (DPDB), Wokha, convened on 24 February 2026 to address critical issues including the town’s water crisis, healthcare infrastructure, and digital governance. The meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Vineet Kumar, IAS, with MLA Achumbemo Kikon, also reviewed ongoing government initiatives and new projects aimed at improving residents’ quality of life.
Officials discussed the drying up of Etsutchukha, the town’s only perennial water source, which has been affected by unregulated borewell drilling. MLA Achumbemo Kikon called for immediate revival measures, including afforestation drives on Mount Tiyi and stricter regulation of groundwater extraction.
The board approved plans to upgrade the district hospital into an urban facility with a nursing college, addressing overcrowding and inadequate facilities. Medical Superintendent Dr. N. Mhonchan Kithan highlighted that the hospital, originally a 4-bed facility in 1876, now struggles to serve the growing population.
The meeting also marked the launch of the AI-powered Citizens SEWA Chatbot, a multi-channel digital interface offering access to 43 government programs, emergency services, and location-based information for PHCs, Anganwadis, and BLOs. Wokha is set to become a model for digital governance in Nagaland under Phase-II expansion.
The DPDB further passed resolutions on boundary mapping, wildlife conflict mitigation, and community engagement, reaffirming the district’s commitment to sustainable development and citizen-centric governance.
