MLA and Chairman of DPDB Wokha, YM Humtsoe, officially inaugurated the Khelo India Centre for Boxing at Police Reserve DEF, Wokha. This significant event marks a new chapter in the development of boxing in the district, offering young enthusiasts a dedicated facility to hone their skills and aspire to excellence.

In his speech at the inaugural function, MLA Humtsoe praised the State Government and the Department of Youth Resource & Sports for adopting Regimental School, Wokha, to establish the Khelo India Centre for Boxing. He added that this center would nurture and groom enthusiastic youth from across the district in boxing. He expressed hope that the center would produce prominent sports personalities and assured support to upgrade and enhance the center’s reputation to harness young talents.

Superintendent of Police, Wokha, Aotula T Imchen, IPS, highlighted the project, informing attendees that an MOU was signed between the Police Department and the Department of Youth Resource & Sports for four years to identify young talents. She added that if the center performs well within this period, it could become a Centre of Excellence (COE). She urged youngsters to take advantage of the facilities and opportunities available. She expressed hope that the center would help talents excel at the state, national, and international levels, bringing laurels to the district.

The SP thanked the DIG for supporting the project and providing the infrastructure to establish the KIC Boxing Centre at Police Reserve (DEF) Wokha. She also thanked all officials involved in making the project a reality. She stated that although the center is established at Regimental School, the facilities provided by KIC would be available to all students and participants across the district interested in boxing.

Under KIC (boxing), a permanent coach has been appointed to identify and train young talents who will later represent the state and nation in boxing. Currently, 14 girls and 18 boys from different schools in Wokha district are enrolled as trainees.

The programme was chaired by DYRO, Wokha, K. Libemo Jami, and the vote of thanks was proposed by SDPO, Wokha, Sangthing Khiam.
