Wokha, December 9 (MTNews): The second edition of Winter Open Airgun Shooting Competition organized by Airgun Sporting Association of Nagaland (ASAN) which is now incorporated as part of Hornbill Festival celebration of Nagaland, supported by the Tourism Department of Nagaland was held today with Ajit Kumar Ranjan, IAS, deputy commissioner, Wokha as the special guest.

In a short inaugural program held at Likya Community Hall, DC Wokha appreciated the initiative of ASAN where he said that Wokha district conducts many such sports events in the district inviting sports enthusiasts from across Nagaland and outside which he said is remarkable. He congratulated the various organizations and organizers in taking interest and trouble in organizing such events, making the district known to the masses and popularizing it. He also expressed that such events have a positive output, stating that through the shooting competition the youths give up the idea of damaging nature and wildlife, where shooting becomes a sport among the youths of Nagaland.
Meanwhile, he appealed to the ASAN to spread awareness to the youths through the shooting competition and channel the enthusiasm to sports rather than shooting wildlife and to let youths excel in the field with discipline and commitment so that they bring laurels and achievement to the state through their talents.
He lamented that presently there are many factors that restrain the potential of youths in the state, yet he was optimistic that in the near future it will gradually find the needs to meet their talents and urged the organizers to keep pursuing what they have started.
Ajamo Odyuo president, ASAN in his welcome address stated that the main objective of ASAN in organizing the annual event is to promote shooting as sports in all the districts in Nagaland, expressing that ASAN was formed with members from different district having same vision to promote and provide platforms to the talented shooting enthusiasts in the State.
A total of 38 individuals registered to participate in the second edition of the competition in Nagaland organized by ASAN at Wokha district where a lone lady shorter from Tsemenyu participated in the open marksman competition with various shooters from other districts.
Neizo Belho emerged as the champion with Mhaden Ngullie and Ashamo Ezung as the first and second runners-up.
