Wokha, 1 September (MTNews): The Department of Posts, Nagaland Division, inaugurated the first Wokha Pex-2023 District Philatelic Exhibition at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School (DBHSS), Wokha today. The two-day event began with Som Kamei, IPoS, Postmaster General, North East –II, as the chief guest and Nuhutu Tunyi, NCS, SDO (Civil), as the special guest.

Tunyi emphasized that philately isn’t just stamp collection but also preserving and sharing stories. He commended India Post for their service dedication and urged participants, especially school students, to embrace the educational and creative aspects of stamp collection.

 

Kamei, the chief guest, spoke about the historical significance of postal services and how stamp collections serve as educational windows to the world. He announced the opening of 70 new branch offices in Nagaland, including one in Wokha district, to provide comprehensive services, including financial ones.

 

Kamei also mentioned that Nagaland has established centers to facilitate international import and export, easing customs duties, and that Wokha will soon enjoy these benefits. He encouraged Wokha Post staff to promote department services.

 

L Tiken Singh, Superintendent of Posts, Nagaland Postal Division, welcomed the attendees, highlighting the exhibition’s role in celebrating cultural connections of the past.

 

Six Wokha District schools received certificates for establishing Philatelic clubs. India Post also provides scholarships through the Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana to students with excellent academic records and Philatelic club memberships.

 

The chief guest and special guest unveiled the exhibition hall stamp design contest, letter writing competition and exhibition of Philatelic collections. School students also displayed their creativity and stamp collections.

 

The program, chaired by Kevikhrielie Kirha, included special songs and cultural presentations by DBHSS, Wokha students and the Tchunnungrotchu Cultural Group, Wokha.
The two-day program concludes on September 2.
