The 1st Banana Festival 2025 is set to take place from October 22 to 24 at the Public Ground, Wokha, organized by the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Wokha, and several line departments.

The festival will be attended by Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang as Special Guest, while Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton will serve as Chief Host. According to DC Kumar, the festival is “not just a celebration,” but a platform to empower over 6,000 farmers, create market linkages, promote scientific farming practices, and encourage value addition. He expressed confidence that Wokha could emerge as a key hub for banana cultivation and other agricultural products.
The three-day festival will feature more than 100 stalls showcasing banana by-products, farming innovations, and agricultural exhibits. Farmers will also participate in technical sessions to engage with experts, while interactive activities such as banana-eating competitions and the “Best Banana Bunch” contest will celebrate local banana diversity. The event is supported by ICAR–KVK Wokha, NABARD, the Central Institute of Horticulture, the Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, and over 30 organizations from across India and Nagaland.
Ahead of the festival, all government departments in Wokha conducted a mass social work initiative on 18th October to ensure cleanliness and readiness in key public areas. DC Kumar extended a warm invitation to the public to attend the festival, support local farmers, and contribute to the success of this landmark event.
