Wokha, February 26 (MTNews): The vehicle assigned for Sungro Sector, Polling Station 4 of 39-Sanis Assembly Constituency under Wokha district carrying security and polling personnel met with an accident on the way near Thillong Bridge, Doyang on Sunday.
As per the preliminary report furnished by the Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Wokha, the apparent cause of the accident seems to be mechanical failure. Twelve injuries and one fatality have been reported. The injured have been shifted to District Hospital Wokha.
It was also informed that a new team of polling personnel along with polling materials from the reserve polling personnel has been dispatched from the Wokha Hq and that the EVM machines, if required, will be replaced from the reserve.
Meanwhile, according to an AIR report, the Additional DGP (Law and Order), Sandeep M Tamgadge said the driver of the bus died on the spot while 12 others, including nine police personnel were injured and evacuated for medical care.
