Clark Centre for Peace Research and Action (CCPRA) organized a two-day workshop on Eco-Peace Drive on 2nd and 3rd Sept, 2022 at Multi-Purpose Hall for the CTC community. Mr. Amba Jamir, Vice President, Integrated Mountain Initiative and Independent Policy and Development Advisor, was the resource person.
The inaugural session was led by Ms. Moasenla, Program Coordinator, CCPRA. Dr. Nungshi Tzudir said the invocation; Welcome and Introduction was addressed by Prof. Rev. Dr. A. Temjen Jamir, Principal, CTC; and Mr. Mangliyangba presented a special song.
Mr Amba Jamir, the resource person lectured on two topics – Reconnecting with Traditional Ecological Knowledge System for a Sustainable Future and Understanding the Waste Challenge: Beyond just waste management. These two lecture sessions were moderated by Dr. Temsuyanger and Dr. Tiameren and each session had a time of interaction.
In his lecture, the resource person emphasized on the need to revitalize and give significant value to our traditional knowledge system rooted in the life and experiences of our fore parents. Traditionally, farmers and cultivators had impeccable knowledge and intelligence on growing crops/ seeds, reading signs and weather and the soil. However, today, we have lost numerous crops and seeds and alongside, lost its practice and traditional knowledge system associated with it. Hence, we have consequently lost attachment with the heritage and nature, afflicted ourselves with ecological crisis while relying on the modern schemes, technologies and advancements.
Mr. Amba further stated that we are facing severe waste challenges today more than ever. It has become a global and social phenomenon as we have various kinds of waste. Although our context seems to have no proper systems of treating waste challenges, he emphasized the possibilities as responsible citizens to be creative and mindful of sustainable and minimalist lifestyles. We can create space for thrift stores, avoid plastics, recycle products, segregate wastes and do what we can do rather than just relying on the systems to do its part.
The resource person also helped the individuals, the institution and the community to take pledge to be concerned about the environment as responsible citizens and stewards.
The first day of the workshop was concluded with a prayer by the Principal.
On the second day, Rev. Dr. A Tali Ao said the Prayer for the day and the Campus clean-up drive was held. Mr. Amba Jamir further demonstrated the exercise on waste segregation, discussed the outcomes and strongly motivated the community to have a vision of eco-peace lifestyle.
