The District Tobacco Control Cell (DTCC), Mokokchung, observed World No Tobacco Day on May 31 at the Youth Ministry Hall of Impur Baptist Church under the theme, “Unmasking the Appeal: Countering Nicotine and Tobacco Addiction.”

Speaking as the theme speaker, Dr K Tiasenla, District Nodal Officer (DNO), National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP), highlighted the harmful effects of tobacco consumption and the serious health risks associated with its use. She urged participants to make informed choices and stay away from tobacco products.

NTCP Consultant Nukshiwati also spoke on the harmful effects of tobacco and the importance of awareness in preventing tobacco use. He said tobacco is not only injurious to health but also an unhygienic practice, stressing the need for greater public awareness and behavioural change.

As part of the programme, participants took a pledge against tobacco use. Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials were also distributed to promote awareness about the dangers of tobacco addiction and the benefits of a tobacco-free lifestyle.

More than 250 students attended the programme, including participants from Impur Bible Seminary and the Impur School of Nursing.

The observance aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of nicotine and tobacco addiction and encourage young people to adopt healthier lifestyles.
