World Suicide Prevention Day was observed at Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, on September 10 with a programme organised by the Department of Psychology.

Dr Lovika P Shikhu, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, chaired the programme, while Dr Imlisongla Longkumer, Head of the department, highlighted the significance of the day.

Special guest Prof N Venuh, Pro Vice-Chancellor, NU-KC, spoke about rising mental health challenges among young people and stressed the need for accessible mental health resources, application-based research and outreach.

A special performance by MA students Ziliro Anar and Bilila Sangtam was followed by a vote of thanks from Guest Faculty Senthunglo Sandie Yanthan.

Later, Nenchu Kath, Assistant Professor, Psychology Programme, North East Christian University, delivered a talk on the event theme. She discussed how stigma surrounding suicide is maintained in communities and ways to break the silence and change the narrative.

Guest Faculty Kezhasenuo Kesiezie moderated the session. The programme concluded with a renewed emphasis on empathy, awareness and collective action in addressing suicide and mental health concerns.
