Kohima, 7 February (MTNews): Rekha Sharma, Chairperson of the National Commission for Women (NCW), Delhi while speaking at the ‘Interaction with Women on Wheels (WoW Season-2)’ on Tuesday expressed her great appreciation for the women of Northeast India. The event was held at The Deck, Hotel Vivor, Kohima. She also appreciated ‘Amazing Namaste WoW explores’ and Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW) for organizing such events.
She highlighted and praised the Mahila Band Nagaland for their extraordinary talent showcased in the recent National Commission for Women program in Delhi. She was also overwhelmed by the beautifully woven stories by Dr Theyiesinuo Keditsu, adding that she would like to invite her to the next National program.
She also shared the untold problems faced by Northeast people, specifically women, on the mainland, where life still presents challenges. She expressed hope that through Women on Wheels, information will be widespread that the Northeastern region is an important and integral part of India, fostering a feeling of “One India, One Nation.”
Earlier, Nginyeih Konyak, Chairperson of NSCW, gave an introduction and felicitation. Dr. Theyiesinuo Keditsu, Anuradha Parmar, and Hoinunnem Chong shared their experiences and appreciation notes from Women on Wheels and Amazing Namaste.
Wangbang Konyak, Advisor to the Social Welfare Department, Government of Nagaland, also appreciated the present society led by women and shared that, for the first time after statehood, Naga women made history by winning two seats, demonstrating that Naga women are also on the “Wheels of change” with the rest of the country.
The program was compered by Gracy Ayee, SMC, SHRW, Mission Shakti, followed by an interactive session.
