Kohima, 26 February (MTNews): The Nagaland Wushu Association (NWA) has announced the names of the athletes selected to undergo an intensive preparatory camp starting from 28 February onwards ahead of the upcoming 3rd Northeast Olympic Games scheduled to begin on 18 March.

A press release from the NWA stated that the association have shortlisted the silver and gold medalists to undergo intensive training in Chümoukedima district. Subsequently, a final selection will be held to select the best fighters to represent the state in the NE Olympic Games (NEOG) 2024. In this regard, all the shortlisted athletes have been asked to report by 12 noon on 28 February at the DUDA guest house near Tetso College, Chümoukedima, to begin their training.

The selected players are as follows: In the 52kg category, Vipu Zhimomi and Wapang Ao, Lipokjonshi Imchen for 80kg, Mankho T Konyak and Meidan I Phom for 56kg, Aboto Ayemi and Nupa Kiho in 60kg,Emtiramok Amri and Akivito in 65kg, Kekhrieneitso Angami and Nchumthung Tungoe in 70kg, Temsu and Yoto Chizo in 75kg.

For the women’s category: In 45kg, Bwensinsha Seb and Temsurenla, Geeta Narjinary in 48kg, and Mahima Mech and Kivikali in the 52kg category.

The Wushu discipline is one of the 16 sports disciplines to be featured at the NEOG 2024, taking place across three districts in Nagaland. For the Wushu discipline, the categories for sanda events are 52kg, 56kg, 60kg, 65kg, 70kg, 75kg, and 80kg for the men’s category. For the women’s category, the weight classes are 45kg, 48kg, and 52kg.
