Wokha, 31 January (MTNews): The 13th edition of LFC-2024, organized by Wokha District Football Association, concluded today at the public ground in Wokha Town. In the final match between defending champions XI Brothers (Chukitong) and Friends Club (Wokha village), the defending champions retained the trophy, defeating Friends Club (Wokha village) 5-1 in the full-time match.
In the first half of the match, Friends Club (FC) dominated, with the first goal coming from Zuben through a free kick in the 5th minute. XI Brothers equalized in the 25th minute with a goal by Mhonthung, who also scored three more goals in the final match (25, 47, 64, and 84 minutes). He claimed the highest goal score of the tournament with 19 goals.
Individual awards were claimed by Zuben Kikon of Friends Club as the player of the tournament, Saronbemo Shitiri (XI Brothers) as the best defender, the highest scorer Mhonthung (XI Brothers), Best Goalkeeper Jonchibemo (Titans XI), and Best Midfielder Renjamo Ngullie of Friends Club.
In the short closing ceremony program before the final match, Secretary Youth Resource & Sports graced the occasion as the chief guest, urging players to exhibit their talents and perform well in the field of sports. He emphasized the need for genuine spectators to support their teams without entering the field.
The Secretary mentioned that the department is initiating job opportunities for sports personalities in various government sectors, encouraging youths to pursue sports with patience and dedication. Congratulating the organizers and both teams in the final match, he wished all football fans and lovers a successful culmination of the tournament.
The event concluded with the Director of Youth Resource & Sports handing over the trophy, certificates, cash awards, and medals to the winners. Medals and certificates were also presented to the individual award winners.
