The Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) has announced its yearly Dog Registration and Vaccination Drive for 2024-25. According to a notification issued by ADC and Chief Executive Officer of MMC, Chumlamo Humtsoe, the drive will take place from September 27 to 28, 2024, across various wards in Mokokchung Town. The initiative, conducted in collaboration with the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services and the All Ward Union Mokokchung (AWUM), aims to ensure that dogs are registered and vaccinated in compliance with local regulations.
The drive will commence at 8:00 AM on both days, with the following wards scheduled for September 27: Salangtem, Alempang, Alongmen, Sangtemla, Tongdentsuyong, Arkong, Penli, Dilong, and Sungkomen. On September 28, Yimyu, Lijabalijen, Mongsenbai, Kumlong, Kichutip, Aongza, Marepkong, Majakong, and Artang wards will be covered.
Ward authorities have been instructed to provide necessary facilities, and each ward will assign two representatives to assist the vaccination team. Pet owners are reminded to ensure that their dogs are wearing identification tags, and those needing new or replacement registration cards must collect them from the MMC office by September 26, 2024.
The MMC also reiterated the importance of complying with the “Dog Registration and Proper Control of Dogs Rules & Regulations 2017.” Pet owners have been advised to prevent their dogs from being a nuisance, particularly at night, and ensure they are healthy and vaccinated. The council also urged pet owners to leash their dogs in public places and clean up after them to avoid penalties for negligence. Additionally, the MMC highlighted the legal protections for animals under the Indian Penal Code, reminding the public that harming pets is a punishable offense under Sections 428 and 429 of the IPC.
