The Yimyu Ward Council (YWC) Mokokchung has on Thursday written to the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung on suspected oil meter tampering at the NRL fuel outlet at Yimyu Ward, Mokokchung.

The Council’s Chairman, Bendangwati stated that following constant complaints regarding suspected meter tampering at NRL fuel station located at Yimyu Ward, the ward council conducted a surprise checking on April 15.

After purchasing 3 litres of petrol, the council insisted on another proper manual measurement and found that 200 ml was short of the 3 litres, following which the SDO Civil Mokokchung, EAC Ongpangkong and Metrology Department officials were informed, the council said.

“When the officials arrived at the spot, they conducted another measurement by purchasing 5 litres of Petrol. This time, it was found that even after the 5 litres gallon was filled to the brim, the meter read only 4.98 litres, indicating that the fuel station is giving away 20 ml more to the customers,” the Yimyu Ward chairman said in the letter.

It further added that the contrasting result of the two purchases clearly show that meter tampering is practiced at the fuel station, and asked the concerned officials to initiate a thorough investigation into the matter and take immediate action against the erring party.

Meanwhile, a senior officer in the Deputy Commissioner’s office told Mokokchung Times that, following the Yimyu Ward Council’s letter, a team has been formed headed by an EAC to check all fuel stations in Mokokchung town.
