The Yongshei-Yungja village councils jointly celebrated Yinglong Pangmoo, a premier post-harvest festival of Phom community on October 2 at Yongshei village with much pomp and traditional gaiety.
Longleng Deputy Commissioner W Manpai Phom (NCS) thanked the village community for promoting the festival.
Gracing the celebration as the special guest, he said that the main idea behind celebrating the Pangmoo festival is to revive and preserve the glorious age old cultural and traditional heritage of the ancestors. He described that the essence of festival is rooted in building friendship and to strengthen bonds among the community.
He emphasized that this festival is propagated in all Phom villages and also hoped that it will be recognized by the state government at the state level.
The significance of Pangmoo was delivered by P Haüjai Hd Barick.
Like most Naga traditional festivals, Yinglong Pangmoo is a festival of thanksgiving and is celebrated after the completion of all agricultural activities. It is a time when all the granaries are filled with bountiful harvest and hence celebrated with utmost sense of godliness and thanksgiving.
The literal term ‘Pang’ meaning Autumn and ‘Moo’ means Festival.
He also stated that, the festival is celebrated for six days with each day having its own significance.
Earlier, S Konang chaired the program. The program witnessed invocation by S Isak Keikung, Pastor YBA, note of appreciation by P Nokthai VCC, Yinglong Pangmoo’s poem recitation by N Medtüng, words of encouragement- Council Chairman Tangha Village, modern folk song by YBYE, benediction by Y Henüh, Asso. Pastor for Women, traditional folk dance by Chingshing Vangvünglaa Vangchong and concluded with Pangmoo feast.
